The History Of Valves


We all heard about valves. And even though we use them, there are few people who can exactly explain what they are and what do they do.
The development of valves was a necessity of the power and process of industrial chemicals. Firstly used on boilers, nowadays, the valves are in used in various domains. The high-pressure or the high-tech demands of today's power and chemical applications, all require the use of the valves.
There are a lot of types of valves. Among them, I can mention the check valves, the solenoid valves, directional valves, flow control valves, the relief valves, sequence valves, pressure regulator valves, load control valves, EGR valves or the shuttle valves. These are the most common types of valves.

But what are the valves? The valves are simple components in piping systems. They are used mainly to control the flow, the direction and the pressure of the liquid. These components can be either simple or complex. It all depends on what they are used for. The valve classification depends on the use you give to a valve. The valves can operate continuously. Like the control valves or intermittently, like the isolation valves. Also, the valves can be used to function rarely. In this case we can mention the safety valves.

The isolation valves are supposed to tight shut off when they are closed, and to restriction the flow of the liquid or gas, when they are open. The valve's use classification can continue with the regulation of flow. I this category we can include globe, ball and butterfly valves. With this valves, the flow can be easily controlled, and fixed to a certain level that t is required. Other functions of the valves are the back flow prevention and the pressure regulation. Both of these processes are important to a proper function, and therefore the check valves that prevents the backflow or the pressure regulator valves are very common. A special type of valves is the safety valve. This kind of valve is generally used in applications where the pressure in a certain system is too high and can damage. The uncontrolled pressure can sometimes be very dangerous. And, to avoid any safety risks and any potential accidents, the safety valves are used.


As you can see, there is a wide variety of special valves developed for specific industries. Depending on each of these industries' needs, you can find a certain type of valves to fit it.
