Be Safer With A Properly Used Egr Valve.

What is a valve? Back in 1972 scientists discovered that high combustion chamber temperatures caused a dangerous combination between oxygen and nitrogen. Then these chemical reactions formed the oxides of nitrogen (NOx). To reduce this dangerous emission of oxides of nitrogen, scientists used the EGR valve.

The reason they did that was that this process was a major cause of air pollution. It caused the air smog, and the air smog produced all kinds of smog diseases. So, they thought they needed something to reduce the high chamber combustion temperatures, something to act just like a fire extinguisher. That is when they invented the EGR valve.

The exhaust gas recirculation valve, shortly called the EGR valve, is something that can control the emission of the chemicals reminded above. This valve is placed in the intake manifold, and its role is to open a small passageway, between the exit and the entrance manifold. This will allow a certain amount of exhaust to enter back in the engine. This valve will reduce the high temperatures of the combustion and will help to control the chemical reaction that produces the oxide of nitrogen. There are billions of EGR valves, and most of them work on vacuum or on a combination of vacuum and pressure.

Where do we meet with this type of valves? You can find the answers by looking into your car. Depending on how old your car is, you can find the different types of valves. Some cars, usually the old ones have mechanical controls of the valve. These types of valve require a certain amount of exhaust back pressure before they will open. On the other hand, the new cars have electronic valves. This type of valves uses solenoids, or even a small stepper motor.

The car valve needs to remain closed, when you are not using your car. You can check this just by looking inside, to see whether the plunger shaft is opened or not. This valve should only open when the engine is warmed up and running. In case the valve is disconnected, the oxides of nitrogen will soar, and you car might suffer a detonation. Or if the EGR valve is open or can not be closed, then a vacuum leak will result. In that case, the only thing that you should do is to replace it. Though it is not very cheap, your safety is much more important.
